Environmental Science (from Toddlers on)
Weekly, a Biologist teaches Environmental Science at Studio da Criança. This class focus on the inquisitive nature and curiosity of our children as they take care of the vegetable garden, animals and do experiments.
The Ecological Space offers kids an excellent opportunity to become environmentally conscious and active citizens. At this area, classes get in touch with different animals such as: tegu, boa constrictor, python, chinchilla, rabbits, quails, crustaceans, frogs, among others.
Similarly, at the Vegetable Garden, children follow the plants growth and changes and learn about the care plants require. Children also observe smalls animals such as ants, earthwarms, ladybugs, and exchange ideas with the teachers about the work and how it is organized. This environment also includes a “Plant Nursery” for seedling and an “Enviromental Experiments Place” with a wormery and a terrarium for ecosystem observation.

Computer Science (from Kindergarten I on)
The work has an interdisciplinary approach with the projects developed by the classes. A teacher expert in Computer technology for Children works with the group.
In a playful and educative manner, children use the computers as another tool to achieve the goals defined for each group. The Computer Science teacher is a full time employee at the day-care/school, and participates in the educational group meetings, thus providing his/her with another opportunity to contribute to the children’s learning process.

Ballet (from Kindergarten I on)
The classes are a mixture of ballet techniques, jazz moves, street dance and relaxation. Besides quality of movement and its adequacy, the purpose is to achieve spontaneous participation, and above all to be a pleasant activity. There are also creativity and theory (French terms) exercises. In these, research and presentation of other rhythms that interest children are also included.

Judo (from Kindergarten I on)
The judo classes are intended to improve kids concentration and to provide discipline and well being, all with complete safety. Much more than a martial art with its moves and postures, this activity has the purpose of observing the physical, intellectual, affective and social aspects, always respecting each child individuality and abilities. Children may also change belt at the school after they achieve the goals for the belt graduation.

Psychomotricity (from Nursery to Toddlers)
Using specific equipment at the Sound and Movement Room or at the open school yards at Studio da Criança, the Psychomotricity teacher organizes games and group activities that favor children’s motor development and understanding of rules.
In addition, many activities are planned using different materials (newspapers, clothespins, boxes, strings, among others) and story telling to motivate children’s socialization, concentration and creativity.

Rhythm and Movement (from Nursery to Kindergarten I)
Body expression movements at the sound of nursery rhymes, clapping and musical instruments are the basics of this activity. It promotes greater interaction between body skills and music, also developing children’s sense of rhythm, hearing acuity, musical memory, oral language and symbolic capacity.

Drama (from 3 years old on)
Creating, improvising, performing... Actions typically related to a child’s world are complemented by the drama technical basis at Studio da Criança Drama Company.
In Children’s Education, this extra activity helps children acquire greater body, time and space awareness, develop sensitivity, foster the imagination and awaken the artistic sense; children get closer to the different languages; develop a greater critical awareness, reasoning and perception. Moreover, it paves the way to socialization.
The resources used in this work are observation, integration and concentration games. Improvisation exercises that sharpen creativity occur during the theatrical scenes, while children deal with the scenarios, makeup and costumes.

Capoeira (from 3 years old on)
Capoeira is a manifestation of Brazilian popular culture, with black culture influence, and undoubted participation on the Brazilian society since Colonial times.
Capoeira is a disguised fight; a game of physical skill, shrewdness and beauty, that brings together peculiar features that identify themselves with those of a fight with game rules, mixing dance and history. Capoeira involves the sound of musical instruments (berimbau, tambourine, and drum), clapping and chanting used a long time ago to express the social exclusion that the black people suffered.
At Studio da Criança, Capoeira has become a fundamental sport for children socialization; working as an excellent means of increasing their body awareness and sense of rhythm, besides developing appreciation for the Brazilian Culture.

Swimming (from 6 months old on)
Considered one of the most complete sports ever, swimming improves muscle tonus increases aerobic capacity, provides organic strengthening, as well as makes children more comfortable in the water and favors sociability, especially if classes are in group.
A good adaptation to the water will mainly depend on the teacher mediation, respecting the development of each child. An important aspect to be highlighted is the time kids have for playing only. The higher number of toys (little fishes, dolls, balls, etc.) of different sizes and colors in the pool, the more stimuli the child will have, and the better his/her development will be, not forgetting the pleasure children experience while playing.

Music workshop
The purpose of this workshop is to awaken the musical potential which is so important for everyone. Children expand the horizon of the music and sounds world with its instruments and styles.
We also try to listen to and sing Brazilian music and encourage the creativity while composing lyrics and melodies and building musical instruments from recyclable waste. Children become acquainted with the collection of musics created at the school and perform at certain times of the year to show what they have produced.
